Educational Programs

New Jersey is at the forefront of providing education and intervention for matters pertaining to TS and its associated disorders. Some of the programs that may be of interest to you are described here...

  • Hospital-Based Educational Seminars. A practicum that provides healthcare professionals with the tools to evaluate and identify the signs and symptoms of Tourette Syndrome with children and adolescents and their families. Held at hospitals throughout the state, experts from around the country present TS and its related disorders from both a clinical diagnostic and medical treatment prospective, and also a psychological point of view. Appropriate to: Family Practitioners, Pediatricians, Neurologists, Psychiatrists, Registered Nurses, Psychologists, Social Workers, Mental Health and Education Professionals involved in the treatment and care of children and adolescents.
  • Statewide Inservice Education, liaison and training for educators, students and school administrators including college workshops at 16 institutions throughout the state. Inservice instructors have been trained to follow a curriculum designed by the National Tourette Syndrome Association, and are usually teachers, school nurses or have a medical background and most have first-hand knowledge of TS. New Jersey's in-service program brings key advice and insights about Tourette Syndrome and its associated disorders right to the educators. To date, over 35,000 professionals have received training through our programs.
  • Medical Conferences and Special Programs. Through the NJCTS speaker's bureau, special presentations are conducted on new advances in treatment modalities and research. Recent presentations in Cognitave Behavior Therapy, The Use of Biofeedback and Habit Reversal are making more of the helping community aware of the alternatives and new hope for those with TS and their families.
